THE BARTENDER
(Words by Jonathan E. Palmer)
(Linus)
He wipes the bar with a wash cloth that's damp
He launches a mug of brew down the ramp
He laughs at the joke he’s heard many times
Cleans up glasses plays the jukebox with dimes
It's quarter to ten folks are just coming in
The night's still young draw some wine from the bin
Serve up the beer fill the orders she brings
Give the barmaid her tips as the register rings
He is bartender
A broken heart mender
While you cry out your eyes
He serves beer and advice
Who are these people the bartender serves
Where are they from has life thrown them a curve
The work of a barman seems about right
He is the one who must care for the night
He is bartender
A broken heart mender
While you cry out your eyes
He serves beer and advice
The bartender cares for the ghosts of the night
The lost souls with no place to go
The bartender cares for the ghosts of the night
The folks who have lost all their hope
We know these people the bartender sees
We've met them at work in our family
They're not so bad having just a rough time
We know they are drinking please don't cross the line
He is bartender
A broken heart mender
While you cry out your eyes
He serves beer and advice
He is bartender
A broken heart mender
While you cry out your eyes
He serves beer and advice
He is bartender
A broken heart mender
While you cry out your eyes
He serves beer and advice
He serves beer and advice
He serves beer
And advice
